Blue to Brown…

Posted in Adorably Random | Comments Off on Blue to Brown…

Week 1 | Our first week of parenthood is complete (actually 8 days, I’m a day late)!!!

It’s 3:05am and I’m up with mommy for an early morning feeding. Emily is doing quite well. She’s gaining lots of weight now and she continues to be a hungry girl. She had a bit of jaundice initially but that seems to have worked itself out. Miss Emily was born with blue eyes (like many babies) but yesterday they started to change. Looks like she’s going to end up with either brown or hazel eyes…

The past week has been the hardest job I’ve ever had… I love this girl more than life itself so all the loss of sleep in the world doesn’t mean a thing. I have to say that one of our saving graces has been Jennifer’s mom (Grammy). She has been an absolute blessing to us! From helping around the house, to cooking dinner, to just being there to listen and give advice when Jennifer and I get warn down. My own mother may not be here to enjoy this with us, but Jen’s mom certainly has her spirit with her and I’m thrilled she remains here with us.

Wow, what a stink…

At this very moment in time, I realize how bad baby poop smells. Those that have kids will know what I mean but we just had our first REALLY stinky poop.

Thank You “Mr. or Mrs. Taylor”…

Day 5 | 3:28am – As I sit here enjoying a 3am feeding with Mommy, I’m reminded of the simple things that make life a little easier. I’d like to take a moment to thank the man (or woman) that invented the “Taylor Oven Timer”. When Mr. or Mrs. Taylor invented that timer, they probably never realized what a joy it would bring to a man up at 3:30 in the morning timing feedings and whatnot. It’s $6 that has truly made a difference in both mine and Emily’s life. So “Mr. or Mrs. Taylor”, I solute you!

Mom and Baby are doing great. Emily (aka. Yellow belly) has a bit of jaundice that we’re treating with this super cool blanket. She brings new meaning to the song “I wear my sunglasses at night”. The blanket glows blue and we have her wrapped up in it. We’re getting her checked daily so no reason to be concerned. For now she’s my absolutely adorable yellow belly (and she’s not even that yellow, I just like the name).

She is still the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life. I’m forever changed.

What a Miracle… Emily is here!

Day 4 | For obvious reasons, I took a 4 day break from my blog. So here we go with “the recap”.

On Wednesday afternoon, Jennifer’s water broke… We were admitted to Kaiser Morse Ave. Hospital in Sacramento. After 15 ½ hours of labor, Emily came into the world March 15th, 2007 at 6:33am. She weighed 5 lbs. 11.7 ozs. and measured 18.5 inches. Mommy and baby are doing wonderful and everyone’s at home now.

Nothing could have prepared me for what it’d be like to watch my daughter come into this world. I am truly blessed and forever changed. I’ve uploaded a bunch of pictures to the website.
